I am afraid for the future of this country.
One of our two major political parties is coming apart.
They are taking increasingly ludicrous positions on issues - driven by special interests. These positions undermine the party as the majority of Americans and vast majority of independants disagree with the party's positions. However, the inability of the party to rationally consider issues rather than ideologically consider issues, means that they lack the basic understanding of their ludicrous positions on their political future.
They are using increasingly violent rhetoric. Their commentators scream into the microphone and foam at the mouth rather than hold a rational discussion of any topic. Driven into a frenzy, they often worry more about showmanship than taking rationally considering a point. Further, stirring up the lunatic fringe with such violent rhetoric is resulting in an increasing amount of actual violence.
Inevitably, that fraction of the American voters who recognize lunacy when they see it and can tell violent rhetoric from rational discourse is being driven away from that party. The future of the party looks bleak at the present, but, without a radical revamp of their political strategy, it looks to become increasingly worse year over year as independants, minorities, and young people are further alienated.
What will happen to this country if one of the parties collapses and cease to exist as a viable political movement? Would our current government work as a single party system?
